I have uploaded a donate button through paypal.  Currently we are accepting donations for my sister's medical bills because of her fight with breast cancer.  I have a lovely table donated by one of our members that will go to the person whom donates the most money to this cause.

The person who donated the table has this to say about the death of her friend:

I thought I would die too.  I had never seen her face to face and yet I knew her so well.  Our e-mails were filled with laughter, lots of laughter.

Katie died at home on Thursday, December 23rd in her sleep - without pain and with all her dignity intact.  Peace was reflected in her calm repose - a final gift to us all in a lifetime of giving.

She spent her last year in a place she loved and a house she adored.  Williamsburg fulfilled all her dreams and expectations.  A day didn't go by without her saying “I just love being here.”

The year was full of memories: Hurricane Isabel (not so wonderful); a trip to California and a week at her old summer playground - Hatteras Island; Thanksgiving with her children, grandchildren, parents and brother- and sister-in-law from California; visits from her Oklahoma/Florida sister and best friend; the kids and friends relaxing on the deck and swinging in the hammock; and many visits to an old English garden she loved in Colonial Williamsburg.

Then there was her recurrence in August, only a week after our thirty-fifth anniversary when this picture was taken.  It started innocently enough but ultimately ended her eight-year fight.  Katie was treated at the Massey Cancer Center in Richmond, Virginia where she grew up, which is among the nation's leading research and clinical institutions, one of only 60 National Cancer Institute designated Centers in the United States.

Katie was a daughter to Margaret and Russell, a sister to Helen, Russell and Constance, wife to Michael, mother of David, Anne and James, mother-in-law to Amy, grandmother of Alexis and Megan, aunt and grand-aunt to so many.  And, she was a friend to all.

Katie was a writer.  She first published poetry in a national magazine when she was fourteen.  This was followed by thirty more years of poetry and short stories in magazines, literary journals and anthologies with translations published in various parts of the world.

Katie was a miniaturist.  While still in Geneva, she started her own company, Fox Hollow Miniatures, and made a wide range of items for doll's houses.  The best part for her was the shows where she was united with other enthusiasts and friends.

Katie was above all, compassionate.  Indeed, her compassion was remarkable.  She poured herself into trying to understand cancer and unreservedly supporting cancer victims and their care givers who were equally unfortunate.  She belonged to a number of cancer related groups where she was a shining star, corresponding and encouraging others at length, marching in Washington and opening her home to survivors and their loved ones.

We will all miss her.

Donations are greatly appreciated.  If you do choose to make a donation will you please pop me an email to Shelly.Norris@gmail.com
